Official Rules
CAS Literary Production, LLC ("Sponsor") sponsors the BEFORE THE FIRST MORNING™ Monthly Bible Coloring Challenge (the "Challenge"). These Official Rules govern participation in the Challenge. By submitting an entry on behalf of an eligible child, the child's parent or legal guardian agrees to be bound by these Rules.
1. Eligibility
The Challenge is open to children ages 5 through 13 who are legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia. Eligible children compete in the following age divisions:
- Little Artists — Ages 5–7
- Young Creators — Ages 8–10
- Bible Artists — Ages 11–13
A child must fall within the applicable age division as of the closing date of the applicable Challenge period. Because participants are minors, entries may be submitted only by the child's parent or legal guardian, who must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in their state of residence). Children may not submit entries or personal information directly to Sponsor.
2. How to Enter
No purchase is necessary to enter or win, and purchasing a BEFORE THE FIRST MORNING product will not improve an entrant's chance of winning. Sponsor makes the applicable coloring page available each month at beforethefirstmorning.com/challenge. Parents or guardians may obtain the eligible page and submit the child's completed artwork without purchasing any product.
The entry form may request only information reasonably necessary to administer the Challenge: the parent or guardian's name, email, and contact information; the child's first name or approved display name, age, state of residence, and applicable age division or edition; and the artwork itself. Parents should not include unnecessary personal information, such as a child's last name, address, school, or other identifying details.
3. Child Must Complete Artwork Independently
The submitted artwork must be created and completed solely by the child identified in the entry. No parent, guardian, sibling, teacher, friend, or other person may color, draw, trace, shade, correct, retouch, enhance, or otherwise materially assist in creating any portion of the artwork.
An adult may explain the Rules, discuss the Bible story, provide general encouragement, supply coloring materials, photograph or scan the artwork, complete the online submission, and provide required parental consent — but may not direct or suggest specific artistic choices.
4. Permitted Materials
Unless otherwise announced, children may use crayons, colored pencils, markers, and other approved child-appropriate coloring materials. Digital coloring, AI-generated or AI-assisted artwork, computer-generated coloring, digital retouching, filters, and photo manipulation are prohibited.
5. Entry Limit & Periods
Entries are limited to one entry per child per monthly Challenge period, judged within the child's age division and, where applicable, BTFM edition. Each monthly Challenge identifies its opening and closing date/time on the Challenge webpage. Late, incomplete, illegible, or noncompliant entries may be declared ineligible.
6. Judging
Eligible entries are evaluated by a judge or panel for a maximum of 100 points:
- Creativity & Imagination — 25 points
- Use of Color — 25 points
- Effort & Completeness — 25 points
- Connection to the Bible Story — 25 points
Entries are evaluated in a manner appropriate for the child's age division. The Challenge is a contest of skill; chance plays no part. In the event of a tie, tied entries are re-evaluated based first on Connection to the Bible Story, then Creativity & Imagination, then Effort & Completeness, then Use of Color. All judging decisions are final and binding, subject to eligibility verification.
7. Prizes & Annual Grand Prize
The prize(s) for each monthly Challenge, together with approximate retail value, are identified on the applicable Challenge webpage before that Challenge begins. Monthly prizes may include a gift card, BEFORE THE FIRST MORNING™ Winner Certificate, merchandise, and recognition of the winning artwork. All taxes and costs not expressly stated as part of the prize are the responsibility of the winner's parent or legal guardian.
Eligible monthly winners may advance to the BEFORE THE FIRST MORNING Bible Coloring Grand Prize. Before the annual competition begins, Sponsor will publish the selection period, eligibility requirements, judging procedures, prize description, and retail value.
8. Winner Verification
Potential winners are contacted through the parent/guardian using the contact information provided with the entry. Sponsor may require reasonable verification of the child's age and eligibility, the submitting adult's authority as parent or guardian, Rules compliance, and confirmation the child independently completed the artwork. Sponsor will not require government-issued identification from a child unless reasonably necessary to verify eligibility or comply with law.
9. Disqualification
Sponsor may disqualify an entry if it reasonably determines that another person materially assisted with the artwork; the artwork was digitally/artificially generated or altered; false eligibility information was provided; entry limits were violated; the entry infringes another's rights; or the entry otherwise violates these Rules. Any matter involving a minor is handled through the child's parent or guardian, and, where reasonably practicable, privately.
10. Children's Privacy
The Challenge is designed so entries and personal information are submitted by a parent or legal guardian, rather than directly by the child. Sponsor collects, uses, retains, and discloses personal information only as reasonably necessary to administer the Challenge, verify eligibility, award prizes, and comply with applicable law.
What Sponsor collects at entry:
- Child's first name or display name
- Child's age group (not date of birth)
- Coloring Book Edition
- The artwork file
- Parent or guardian name and email address
What Sponsor does not collect: photographs of children, full names, dates of birth, home addresses, school names, or other identifying details. Sponsor retains personal information only as long as reasonably necessary and maintains reasonable measures to protect its confidentiality and security.
11. Display of Children's Artwork
By submitting an entry, the parent or guardian, on behalf of the child, grants Sponsor a nonexclusive, royalty-free license to reproduce, display, publish, and distribute the artwork in connection with administering the Challenge, judging, announcing winners, and promoting the BEFORE THE FIRST MORNING™ project, across Sponsor's websites, social media, and promotional materials.
Sponsor may identify publicly displayed artwork using the child's first name or approved display name, age, and state of residence — never the child's last name, address, school, email, phone number, or other sensitive identifying information. Except for this limited license, submission does not transfer ownership of the artwork to Sponsor. Permission to display artwork may be withdrawn at any time by contacting Sponsor.
12. General Conditions
Sponsor reserves the right to modify, suspend, cancel, or terminate a Challenge if fraud, technical failure, or other circumstances materially impair its integrity. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, or corrupted entries or technical failures, except where responsibility cannot lawfully be excluded. Sponsor may disqualify anyone who tampers with the entry process or engages in fraud or misconduct.
These Rules are governed by the laws of the State of Texas. Disputes that cannot be resolved informally will be brought in a state or federal court in Harris County, Texas.
